As an active runner for over 40 years along with a passion for computer technology, and travel, I want to share my experiences so everyone can benefit.
Along with sharing my run training, event participation, travel to exotic Pacific Islands and computing experience come share my journey.
My running journey started back in 1980 participating in my local primary school’s yearly cross country run. Like all kids back then this was just a fun day off not having to do any school work.
What set this day apart from all others came when I crossed the finish line and was handed a piece of paper with 6 written on it. Unbeknownst at the time this actually represented finishing 6th in the whole school. Not bad for an 8 year old and just from running around the school block.
What came about from that run would set me up for decades. The exhilaration that comes from running is like no other sport or team event I have participated in.
Running is singly the most beneficial, basic and inexpensive form of sports anyone can do.
You don’t require to buy the most expensive or latest type of running shoe to start. In fact I remember my first pair were just a pair of Bata Bullet sneakers. Today I do mainly run in Asics and Hoka One One.
To coincide with my running I’m an avid computer technology geek, nerd or other form of the phrase. I’m all about using some form of technology to help me out. This could be my GPS watch, mobile phone or small action camera capturing my running moments.
My computer passion started in high school, where a bunch of friends would congregate around at someone’s house interested in what was being used and done. I remember then saving up my hard earned money to buy for first PC – an Amstrad 464 with built in tape cassette drive, green CRT monitor and separate joystick. I was a bit jealous of a friend who had the one with the floppy disc drive and colour monitor. From here I started learning all about learning BASIC, creating small programs and learning all things about PC’s. At school I was glad to have learnt some stuff in class, however most was learnt from the school computer club and the antics some of my friends got to do.
