This week’s article about global data consumption and the predicted future amount has some large numbers.
The demand for data, especially driven by video traffic, is on the rise. It’s projected that global data consumption over telecom networks will nearly triple by 2027- from 3.4 million petabytes (PB) in 2022 to 9.7 million PB in 2027.
The demand for data, especially driven by video traffic, is on the rise. It’s projected that global data consumption over telecom networks will nearly triple by 2027.
As of the latest information available, the total amount of data created, captured, copied, and consumed globally reached 64.2 zettabytes in 20201. This figure is forecasted to grow to more than 180 zettabytes by 20251. It’s important to note that these numbers are rapidly increasing due to the continuous growth in internet usage, data generation from various sources, and advancements in technology.

The data figure mentioned is a mind-boggling amount to have stored and backed up. Data centres are having to find new technologies and ways to improve how efficient they can get usage out of every Watt of power.
Looking forward to the advancement of our understanding of quantum physics, we hope this new technology will help to drive new ideas to solve some of these very complex problems.
The following report by PWC shares its findings on “the global telecom industry seeking growth…”
It describes that video generation is the largest contributor and as I mentioned in my article last week, with AI software tools such as Sora, I can see that the video industry will exponentially increase.

In conclusion we are data driven consumers and our usage will increase each year.
As a final thought, don’t forget to back up your personal data on multiple sources such as an external device or the cloud. You will reduce your risk of not losing it when the time arises.
