Whatipu coastal path (Owanawanui Track) in West Auckland. Day walk as part of our training going to Nepal and the Himalayas.
Starting the walk from the Huia Road side, we walked up the gravel road past Mt. Donald Mclean Road to the start of the bush track.
The track itself has been upgraded to a board walk for the majority of its lengths. Parts are steep, which requires one to pull themselves up a rock face using the available chains installed.
The track comes out above the Whatipu camp ground and car park. The return back to Huia was via the gravel road. In all the distance is approximately 16km. A good distance for the day and prepared training.
As we are now only a few weeks before leaving the volume and length of training is now tapering.
Our next story continues with the final training and what has been happening …. stay tuned for more.
