After a 3 year delay due to the COVID 19 pandemic, I’m pleased to announce I’ll be heading off to Nepal in early 2023 along with a couple of friends. It’s been a long time having to wait, with intrepid anticipation, and now we are close to finally going.
There is still plenty to do, vaccines to be had, documentation checked, and the all important training. Training is nothing special, mainly walking, running, cycling and weights. Like most training ensuring we are properly prepared is key. Long walks and running up to 5 times per week are not uncommon. Having so far completed a consistent amount over the years, I’ll be more than prepared. We cannot prepare for altitude here in NZ so acclimatization will start in Kathmandu and then progressively increase on the trek in the Himalayas.
Yes we will be seeing Mt. Everest for the 2nd time, and for one of my school friends, this has been a 30 year dream to have all of us going together. I’ll be celebrating not only this but a milestone birthday of 50. I couldn’t have wished for anything more appropriate.
I’m looking forward to being able to update this journey before, during and after. The great thing with Nepal is that there will always be access to the internet, even in the Himalayas. So I’ll be able to update my blog.
Stay tuned, and hopefully as we near the start in February, this awesome adventure will begin.
